The Char Dham Yatra is an annual pilgrimage to visit Hindu temples located in Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. The pilgrimage takes place between the months of June and August every year.

Kedarnath opening date

Kedarnath is located in Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the char dhams and a popular tourist destination. The temple was built by Adi Shankara around 1000 AD in cidambaram forest near Badrinath Mountain range which is also known as Shivalik hills or Himalayan Mountain range.

When the temple opens, a ceremony called the “Vishwakarma Puja” is performed to mark the occasion. This ceremony involves the chief priest of the temple, known as the “Rawal,” unlocking the temple doors and performing a puja to invoke the blessings of Lord Vishnu, the deity of the temple. This is followed by the “abhishekam” or the ceremonial bathing of the Lord Vishnu’s idol with milk, curd, honey and other items.

After the puja ceremony, the temple remains open for the entire season, until the closing ceremony, which is typically performed in the month of November. During the open season, thousands of devotees from all over India and abroad visit the temple to offer their prayers and seek blessings from Lord Vishnu.

Yamunotri is the source of Yamuna River, which is one of the sacred rivers in India. The temple at Yamunotri has a water reservoir and many Shiva temples, including one dedicated to Lord Shiva himself. This temple can be reached by trekking through difficult terrain; it takes about five hours to reach there from Joshimath (a city near Kedarnath).

Gangotri is one of the four dhams in the Char Dham Yatra. It is a town and a nagar panchayat in Uttarkashi district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The holy river Ganges originates here, flowing through it before flowing into Nepal and then into Bangladesh. Gangotri Temple was built by King Dilipa Deva Raya (13th century), who came here after his father Prataparudra I defeated Sultan Nasiruddin Khalji during his invasion through Kumaon region during 1301 AD until 1306 AD; he also established several other temples around this region including Dwarka Sahib Gurudwara at Dehra Dun which is visited by many people every year during Vaisakhi festival celebrated every spring season since 1947 when Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji stayed there for few months after being freed from captivity following execution order issued by Emperor Aurangzeb himself due to non compliance with Muslim law forbidding Hindus from entering Muslim dominated areas without permission

Kedarnath closing date

Badrinath closing date

The Badrinath yatra closing date is January 15, 2023.

The last day of Char Dham Yatra is also known as Badrinath closing date.

Yamunotri closing date

The Yamunotri temple closes on October 9th. The Yamunotri temple opens in May, and closes between November and April.

Gangotri closing date

Gangotri closing date is August 28, 2023.

Gangotri temple is open from May 1 to August 28.


The Char Dham Yatra is a Hindu pilgrimage that takes place every year. Every year around this time, millions of people make their way to the holy sites in Uttarakhand to pray for blessings and seek divine intervention. The Char Dham Yatra is an annual event that lasts five days, starting from the last day of Shravan month (October) and ending on Kartik Purnima (the full moon day of Kartik).
